I don't know details but that doesn't "ring true" to me.

\Where does the Baba Sali fit into the sefardi picture?

The Baba Sali was a Tzaddik, not a Posek...
ROY is the "default halacha" for most Sefardim (though there are notable exceptions), much like the MB for "most" ashkis...

The surviving leadership of Shas issued a letter supporting a candidate in the Jerusalem elections, reporting it as "the last decree (or will) of ROY".  Reportedly, the Jerusalem electorate wept when they read it.

More requests from ROY:  to get rid of "impure devices" (or perhaps to just use them outside the home), to not draft yeshiva students, and to keep the hospital where he died from closing (no photo for the last one).

Haim.  Named after Haim Nachman Bialik, influenced by Bauhaus.  Mainly used in newspaper headlines and death notices.

Guttmann Pashkevil 288

You're probably right about the Guttman part, it's most likely Shmuel Guttman's version of Haim, according to the link above it comes with Microsoft Office (but I didn't find it in mine).  It is used in pashkevilim but so are very many others.  Actually you'd think they wouldn't use modern fonts, or at least only use fonts that resemble typefaces used in seforim typeset by hand.

The chevra kadishas in Jerusalem say this odd thing during funerals where they cancel the deceased's memberships in any organization whatsoever (and if they didn't say this, he'd still have to pay dues?).  So I just realized, ROY is no longer a member of Shas.

Maybe it's in case the beis din shel maalah isn't happy with his affiliations.

The friend who got an election phonecall from ROY wrote "I believe that possession of a phone number is one of those traits that Rambam says should not be attributed to God."

(note: not a real pashkevil)

The graphics of pashkevils are a DISASTER!

Everything is block-aligned, the spacing is terrible, the fonts are usually atrocious and outdated, no sense of creativity, slogans and mottos that repeat themselves, no copy-writing, no design, no concept or shred of thought.  SHOCKING! with all sorts of retarded (sorry, that's what it says) phrases like "CRY OH LAND!" (I can't find the source for this phrase, maybe from זעקי עיר in Yeshayahu?  זעקי ארץ אהובה  is the title of the translation of "Cry, the Beloved Country")  Exclamation marks everywhere!  Likea7thgrader (the spacing is deliberately wrong) wrote it!  And without a drop of color!  Why is there no color!  A drop of blue or pink would have livened it up a bit!  Someone would have stopped to read it!

And why the hell is there no writer's credit!
